Prayers of Intercession

Called to carry the cross with Jesus, we are to be compassionate to others, sharing with them simple acts of kindness and care.

  1. We pray for Pope Francis, that his example of compassion for the poor and vulnerable of our world will inspire in us actions of kindness and thoughtfulness. Let us pray to the Lord. Grant this, Almighty God.
  2. We pray for Christians burdened with the denial of religious freedom in China and Vietnam, remembering especially bishops, priests and lay faithful imprisoned for their faith in Jesus. Let us pray to the Lord. Grant this, Almighty God.
  3. We pray for those suffering famine in East Africa, and those who live within the war in Syria, and all desperate in refugee camps. Let us pray to the Lord. Grant this, Almighty God.
  4. We pray for those who have died through violence, by accidents or suicide, that Jesus Christ, who conquered death, will take them to himself and comfort their families. Let us pray to the Lord. Grant this, Almighty God.
  5. We pray for those who in the last week have gone to their rewards, especially, Fr. Charles Kane, Fr. Martin Xavier, Paul Will, Jean Will, Maureen Valbonesi, Marion Pagani, Janice McIvor, Pat Curran, Joseph Kearney, Mary Reilly, Rena Traynor and Douglas Mennie. Jesus has spoken of the gift of courage when we are faced with difficulties or opposition, a courage which sustains us with hope-filled life.

  1. We pray for Pope Francis in his mission to affirm the dignity and worth of every person, that his love for the oppressed and poor will echo in our hearts,  and be reflected in our words and actions. Christ, hear us. Grant this, Almighty God.
  2. We pray for those whose lives are threatened because of their faith in Jesus, that they will hold fast to him who never deserts his people. Christ, hear us. Grant this, Almighty God.
  3. We pray for those affected by the forest fires in Portugal, the famine in East Africa, the wars in Syria, Yemen and South Sudan, and terrorist attacks in Europe, that relief, peace will swiftly come and harmony will be restored to all. Christ, hear us. Grant this, Almighty God.
  4. We pray for those who have died that they may enter the presence of their Father in heaven. We remember Maureen Campbell, Joe Conetta, Tricia Connolly, James Docherty, Catherine Cuthbertson, Jean Millar, Catherine Charlick, Placido Sturniolo, James McGroary,  Phyllis Ellis and those who lost their lives in the landslide in the Sichuan Province of China. Christ, hear us. Grant this, Almighty God.
  5. Let us pray to our Lady of Paisley for Bishop Keenan:  Hail Mary….

Lord God, we know that your love never fails and that you constantly surround us with your kindness. Be with all who are afraid at this moment and sustain them in their trials. Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
