Today’s Feast Day: St Andrew Dūng Lac and his Companions

Today’s feast day is that of St Andrew Dung-Lac and his Companions.  St Andrew converted Vietnam, where there are now 6 million Roman Catholics.  St Andrew Dung-Lac and his friends are also known as the Vietnamese Martyrs, day 117 of whom have already been beatified.  Not all were Vietnamese in nationality and their deaths were varied (75 were beheaded, 22 strangled, 6 burned alive, 5 torn to pieces while still alive and 9 died of torture).  Please take a few moments today to pray for all those people around the world who are being persecuted for their faith. They all need our prayers.

New Rotas Out!

Parish Rota from 25th November 2017

To see the second page of the rota, click on the document and a little sign appears that allows you to move to the second page.

You’ll notice a change in format this month. Across the columns we have all the different responsibilities for each mass and the mass times down the rows.  This makes it much easier to read and know what each person is doing each week.

Today’s Feast Day: St Cecilia

Today is the Feast Day of St Cecilia.  St Cecilia is viewed by the Roman Catholic Church as a perfect example of a Christian woman.  She is pictured her because she is known to have played music to God ‘in her heart’.  Saint Cecilia is the patron saint of musicians.  Do you know any musicians who are finding it hard to get the recognition they deserve or are struggling with their craft? Why not say a small prayer for them today?

The painting is by Guido Reni.

Today’s Feast Day: St Edmund

Today is the feast day of St Edmund Rich, who lived and died as a Christian martyr in the year 869. He was buried in Bury St Edmund’s, the town that took his name.  St Edmund is another of those saints that is forgotten by most people.  Why not say a prayer to him today and ask him to intercede for you and your special intention?
