We have two special saints today: St Simon and St Jude, who were both Apostles. St Jude is the Patron Saint of hopeless causes and many people pray to Saint Jude when there appears little hope of something happening. If you need St Jude’s help, why not say his novena below for nine consecutive days?
Novena to St Jude (Say for 9 consecutive days)
Most holy Apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of difficult cases, of things almost despaired of, Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone. Intercede with God for me that He brings visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly –(make your request here)– and that I may praise God with you and all the saints forever. I promise, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor granted me by God and to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen
Today’s Feast Day is St Oran (aka Otteran) of Iona. St Oran was a friend of St Columba and is buried on the island. He is the Patron Saint of Waterford and Lismore. Another forgotten saint, why not say a prayer to St Oran today?
Today is the Feast Day of Saints Chad and Cedd. The two brothers were Bishops in Yorkshire in the 7th Century. Not much is known of either saint. So many saints are forgotten and it is a nice practice to remember them. Why not say a small prayer to Saints Chad and Cedd today?
Today’s Feast Day is that of Frei Galvāo. He was born in Sāo Paolo and was a Franciscan. Frei Galvāo was made a saint in 2007 by Pope Benedict and is the world’s first Brazilian-born saint. Not many people in Europe know about Frei Galvāo but he is revered in his home country of Brazil. Frei Galvāo was the Patron Saint of the World Youth Day in 2013. Why not say a small prayer to Frei Galvāo today for someone who needs some help?
Today’s Feast Day is St Antony Mary Claret, who is the Patron Saint of the Catholic Press. We have a number of Catholic newspapers in St Cadoc’s: The Catholic Herald, The Observer, and The Flourish. Say a small prayer today to St Antony to help our Catholic press reach more people.
Today is the Feast Day of St John Capistrano, the Patron Saint of Hungary. He is also the Patron Saint of Jurists. Why not say a Hail Mary today for all people called up to jury duty?

On Saturdays, Roman Catholics make an effort to remember Our Lady and the sacrifices she made for her Son. Why not take five minutes today to say a decade of the Rosary for Monsignor Tom’s special intention? Many people ask Monsignor Tom for his prayers. You can add to his prayers for all those people needing God’s help in our parish.
